Summer Reading Challenge

Dear Parents,

We want our children to relax and enjoy themselves this summer. We do, however, also want our students to maintain the skills they have gained this year. Studies have shown that children who do not actively engage their minds over the summer can lose up to three months of instruction. To maintain our students’ learning and keep academic momentum, we are supplying you with this Summer Reading Challenge.

This year’s theme is Sink Into a Story! As a kickoff to our challenge, we are giving all our students a biography of a diver. For the challenge we are asking students to read a minimum of 20 minutes., write the title of the book, and have a parent initial for each day read. This can be accomplished by reading 20 minutes a day for four days a week for 8 of our 10 weeks off this summer.

As a reward for their efforts, we will have a Sink Into a Story Celebration when we return in August. Please encourage your child to participate. Make summer reading a family event!
