    Welcome to Library Land!

Our mission is to facilitate lifelong learning and the success of all students at Gene W. Brown Elementary by offering reading materials and information access in a customer-friendly environment.

Objectives:

1.Supply students with both pleasure and informational reading materials, along with the skills to use them.

2.Provide curriculum support for all teachers and students.

3.Effectively communicate with all Brown stakeholders, including students, parents, administration, faculty/staff, and the Hendersonville community.

4.Promote a love of reading and lifelong learning.

What We Do in Library Land

¯  Train how to use the library.

¯  Promote a lifelong love of reading through book talks, storytelling, and the sharing of books.

¯  Assist with research projects.

¯  Offer daily checkout times.

¯  Provide a safe, secure environment for all students

Lending Policy

Students visit the library once a week for 50 minutes.  They are allowed to check out two books each week.  We do not charge for overdue books.  However, a student who has borrowed books will not be allowed to check out another item until outstanding books have been returned.

If a book cannot be located after a complete search, then it can be replaced by check payable to Brown Elementary.  The price will depend upon the age and condition of the book.

Birthday Club

We had such a great response to our Birthday Book Club that we will continue with the club this year.  A list will come home with book titles that you can purchase.  A bookplate with your child's name will be in the front of the book.  Your child will be the first student get to check out the book. This is a great way to honor your child by purchasing a book for our library!

AR Color Code

Our books are coded according to AR level so that it is easier for the students to find a book on their reading level.

:

Red  – 5th grade and up

  Green – 4th grade

 Blue – 3rd grade

 Yellow – 2nd grade

  Pink – 1st grade

 Orange – Kindergarten

Looking for easy ways to help raise funds for our school?

Use goodsearch.com as your search engine.  It is powered by Yahoo.  For every search our school earns money!  So far we have earned over $200!

We will collect Boxtops for Education again this year.  Save them at home and we will send a letter to inform you of the contest month.  The class that turns in the most wins a prize!

We can always use parent volunteers in the library! Contact us if you are interested in helping!

We are excited about this year in Library Land!
